Tutorial Tuesday: Create a Flower Using Shapes

Photoshop users, this tutorial is for you! Today, you will learn how to create a simple flower using the ellipse tool.

Let's get started with this step-by-step tutorial. You can also view the video at the end of the post if you prefer watching the steps.

Open Photoshop.

Click on File>New. I typically choose the 15x15 image size.

Click on Create.

Click on the Ellipse tool on the left.

Use your mouse to place your ellipse on the screen. Once you have it the size that you want, click on Edit>Transform>Skew

Pull your corners to stretch the shape into a petal shape (see video). The finished petals should look like this.

Once you have your shape created, duplicate your layer.

To duplicate your layer, click on Layer>Duplicate Layer. Once you have duplicated your layer, you will want to rotate it so that it will begin to form a flower shape.

To rotate your duplicated layer, click on Edit>Transform>Rotate.

Repeat these steps again to duplicate your third set of petals and rotate it again. It should look like this.

Your final step will be to create the black circle center.

Click on the Ellipse Tool again and create a circle. Place it over top of your image and you are done! You've just created a simple flower using shapes!

Below is the video version of the tutorial.
